A goose and a male mallard had a brief encounter.
Like most of the mallards, I found Smudge (the little white duck with the smudge on top of her head,) up in the field with her consort. This pair waddled down stopping for a drink on the way before making it to the canal.
A greylag goose showed excellent ballance while having a wash and brush up
While this mallard had to move fast to get out of the way of another male. I am assuming he is a mallard despite the fact his head is a beautiful brown instead of green and purple.
There was no sign of any moorhens - but - there was evidence of some shoddy nesting work on the wood piling and stone where they had their first brood last year. Moorhens are very messy nest builders and I wonder if this sorry attempt is just an instinctive thing. I'm not convinced the female stayed around her after my first sighting of them both weeks ago. I do hope they are both there, it was such a joy to watch them last year.
These are some of your best bird photos, Angel - what a delightful blog!
