I have been wondering about the mute swans and had just finished telling someone that I hadn't seen the female since February, when she appeared. You can tell this is the female because the knob at the top of the beak is much smaller, but also, she has a much calmer, gentler way about her than old Grumps. He would have been right there waggling and coughing and demanding food. Lady is all grace and elegance. It remains to be seen if we get cygnets here this year. I notice she has a sort of pinkish top to her head at the moment, is this a breeding thing? Must find out.
