Micklethwaite Moorhens

Definately more than two moorhen chicks at Micklethwaite Wharf.  I managed to count 4 red and yellow beaks though there could be even more under Mum.  Two were quite adventurous and had a little swim around but were quickly back to the nest.  With those great feet, they had no trouble scrabbling up the nest.  The biggest entertainment was the male confronting the cows who came too close to the nest - the moorhen won!  I'll be writing it all up as an article on HubPages tomorrow so will enter the link then.  Meantime, some piccies...

  1. They're cute Anne, and such a proud papa protecting his babies.

  2. Wonderful photos. They are so cute.
